Welcome to the Eritrean Cultural & Civic Center in Washington, D.C. Our mission is to celebrate and promote Eritrean heritage, culture, and community engagement. We serve as a vibrant hub for Eritreans and friends of Eritrea, fostering connections through cultural events, educational programs, and civic initiatives.
Originally founded in 1989 in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, DC, the Eritrean Cultural & Civic Center was established to address the growing needs of the Eritrean community in the D.C. metropolitan area. As Eritreans began to settle in the U.S. during and after the Struggle of Independence, there was a pressing need for a dedicated space to preserve our cultural identity and provide support for the new Eritrean population living in the DMV metropolitan area.
In 2019, we proudly opened our new location, allowing us to expand our reach and enhance our programs. This modern facility offers greater space for community gatherings, workshops, and cultural events, making it easier for us to connect and engage with both our community and the wider public.
Over the years, the center has evolved into a cornerstone of the community, hosting numerous events such as cultural festivals, art exhibitions, and language classes. We have also played a key role in advocating for civic engagement and social justice, empowering our members to actively participate in local and national dialogues.
Through workshops, cultural celebrations, and social gatherings, we strive to create a space where individuals can share their stories, learn from one another, and strengthen our collective identity.
Join us in our efforts to build a supportive and inclusive environment that celebrates our past, engages with the present, and inspires future generations. Together, we can make a difference in our community and beyond.
